(In response to a deleted post):
Kino, how big a hand did Mamoulian have in Laura? His name hardly ever pops up with the film.

According to IMDb: "Rouben Mamoulian directed "Laura" at first, but was replaced by Otto Preminger, who also produced the picture. He immediately destroyed all of Mamoulian's footage, including a scripted ending where everything was revealed to be a dream, and brought a new cameraman onto the set."

Yeah, that's why I've never credited Mamoulian as the director of the version I've seen.

Peeps need to see Laura, yo. I watched it last night again; wowza. For sheer repartee and black humour, not to mention themes of necrophilia that bind it with Vertigo (it resembles The Woman in the Window, too (wetdog mentions Mamoulian's original plans for a dream revelation, and as it is the final product's quite open to that interpretation)).
Clifton Webb must have more one-liners in the film than any other actor in any other film. He's a hoot.
From what I've seen, great year. (Will be updating all my top tens soon.)
