David Simon and Ed Burns are the executive producers and part of the writing team for this miniseries based on Evan Wright's book of the same name. It's about the U.S. Marines invasion of Iraq in 2003. I'm really looking forward to Treme. Generation Kill site

It's gotten better with each episode, but like the other Simon-Burns works, it's really about the whole so I'll see how I feel again when it's done.

Glad you're back, Kino. Hope you're well. Have you seen Hack? I keep catching snippets very late at night, recognising several actors from The Wire.

It feels fresh after being away for a while. I'm good.
Haven't seen Hack, and I'll definitely look into the Le Carre book you recommend. I love film The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.
By the way, what does your dad think of The Wire so far? I thought you guys were going to blast through the thing to catch Season 5 as it airs on UK tv. Nice to see UK articles being written on the show prior to Season 5 airing.

With 4 episodes aired, I'll say this is a must-see, fellas. It will keep that designation from me regardless of the quality of the remaining 3 episodes.
I find it already more satisfying (in an edifiying way) than any war movie or tv series including Band of Brothers that I've seen so far.

I've started watching it, pretty decent start. Are the episodes 1 hour each? The DVD (3 episodes) says "2 hours 33 min", but the first episode lasted 1 hour 8 min.

The first 3 episodes have been pretty good. Anyone else watche(s/d) this other than myself and Kino?

I am already a fan of this show and recommend it highly. After watching 2 more episodes late night/early morning yesterday, I woke up randomly saying (in mind) to myself "Hitman 2, this is Hitman actual, over", "How copy?", "Roger that" etc. I was a bit distant after the first episode, with all the unfamiliar jargon. Now, even though I still don't understand most of the jargon, it(the radio communication) has become this tempo setting motif throughout the series. I am all excited about discussing about this show when I finish it soon.

Counting tv along with film, it's my favorite of 2008.

I finished watching this show. It is excellent. It deals with the first marine recon mission in 2003, when US landed in Iraq. I am yet to check out the bonus materials. I wish they had a longer series covering more timeline in Iraq war.

Not yet. I have no reason why I haven't. I've been watching a lot of other crap lately, so I could use a good mini-series. I've actually started watching The Wire again, so I should put it on hold and watch Generation Kill. I'm glad you reminded me.
