Has anybody heard of this? It's a trilogy of made-for-TV films adapted from David Peace's quartet of novels, set in 1970s-1980s Yorkshire in the aftermath of the Yorkshire Ripper.
I stirred in my seat when I saw the trailer yesterday at the cinema; Paddy Considine's in it, for starters, alongside Peter Mullen and the underrated Sean Bean.
It sounds and looks very good indeed. There's an article on it in the latest Sight & Sound - Nick James says it's more like Gaspar Noé and Irreversible than the kitchen-sink/neo-realism/poetic realism strands of British cinema.

UK and Ireland members can catch the first installment, 1974, here. I quite liked it; it has a confident directorial air to it, and an excellent cast. A lot of peeps were underused - I guess their involvement helped with funding - folks like Eddie Marsan, Peter Mullan and Sean Bean. There's a broadly painted sense of ugly vulgarity and moral hopelessness to the whole thing, which appealed to me greatly. I'd like to read the novel(s). SPOILERSWorst final moments ever? "Travis Bickle" does a U-turn and drives his car into oncoming police headlights? Hm....I'm watching the second installment, 1980, later this week; it looks a lot better, for two reasons - a police investigating corruption in the force appeals to me more than a journalist getting in over his head, and said police is played by Paddy Considine.

Paddy Considine and Peter Mullen are always good value. This two are total quality. They always make anything better by just being there.
And speaking of Considine, he was great in the very good little movie called DEAD MAN'S SHOES.
