Because of the aforementioned bringing together of visual and special effects under one heading, "Visual Effects" should be credited to the film, not the crew. Likewise, due to the collaboratory nature of the departments, "Sound Design", "Makeup" and "Mise-en-scene" should also be credited to the film, and nobody in particular, in respect to the many personnel involved in such departments (Mise-en-scene is not a technical department, but represents the entire, cohesive collaboration of all others as shown in one frame under the creative vision of the director).

By the way, Ronnie, Aronofsky's screenplay for The Fountain is adapted from a story he and Ari Handel wrote. I don't know if you wanna jumble your nominations around; you'd need to lose one from Adapted Screenplay if you wanted to put The Fountain in that category.

Why you put Tom Cruise up for Best Actor?
Unless I'm mistaken, he's about as animated as cardboard except for when Mr. Hoffman acts around him in circles upon circles.

Tom Cruise for best actor is the strangest thing I saw in these nominations. And can someone explain me what is production design and why should we be interested in that?

And can someone explain me what is production design and why should we be interested in that? Because a film's setting is vital and essential to a film and the production designer is in charge of that overall vision. The art director, set dresser, and the rest of the production design unit carry out the production designer's vision. Think Blade Runner or Godfather. Change a story's setting and you change the film no less than changing a piece of film score or lens or camera setup would. We all know how vital cinematography is to film and the DP collaborates with the production designer and costume designer; their decisions affect eachother. The DP chooses a color pallette, the director okays it, and the prod. designer works off of that. Or the prod. designer has an idea and feels strongly about it, the director okays it, and the DP adjusts to that.

I've said it before, quite recently in fact, that nobody moves through a frame with as much energy, flair and physical discipline as Tom Cruise. He made Mission: Impossible III as exhilarating as it was. Silly film, but nothing less than extremely watchable, and Cruise makes me want to sprint down a busy Shangai street until my body dies on me.
Until I saw The Science of Sleep yesterday, I had Sacha Baron Cohen in there too.

svsg, not sure if you want to change it, but The Descent is a 2005 production, and so is ineligible for Best Cinematography.
Also, Vera Farmiga has been voted for both Leading Female and Supporting Female; I'm inclined to make her Supporting. Ronnie, do you want to fiddle around with that?

Making these nominations was absolutely depressing, in that I can't remember proviewing about 30% of the films nominated. What does that mean? I'm waaaaaaay fucking behind on proviews.

I understand that the IMDB date as well as the UK release date is in 2005, but in US it was released only in 2006. Any concessions for US viewers? If you strictly go by the IMDB year, then you may remove it from the list, I don't want another nominations in its place.

I've said it before, quite recently in fact, that nobody moves through a frame with as much energy, flair and physical discipline as Tom Cruise. I'd put Jet Li and ol' boy Jackie Chan above Tom Cruise. And actively, no one is close to Tony Jaa at all. His movies are terrible, but Tom Cruise is no match for Jaa.
