You are right Wetdog, I had watched those exact other four movies. Since they sort of had some recurring themes of depression and loneliness, except the first one, I presumed them to be a collection of short movies. Thanks for the info. BTW I liked all of them, but the 25 min short titled "cutting Moments" itself was the most powerful of them all, followed by "a bowl of oatmeal".

August Underground's Mordum * (2003) IMDB Link: www.imdb.com/title/tt0410332/This movie has been shot entirely with a hand-held camera and is extremely shaky, giving an impression as though it is a real video. That is the only high point in this movie. This is probably the most extreme anyone can go in making highly disgusting movies. You won't believe the stuff they show - like having sex with disemboweled corpses and other similar gross stuff. if you can sit through the movie without puking, it is an achievement. I really mean it. BTW, there is no real plot or anything.

With this I wind up my reviews of some of the most extreme movies ever made. Though it is not the most appropriate word, I enjoyed the journey. I learnt a bit more about myself through this journey. What are my moral boundaries? how much is too much? Should art be ever censored? Is it even art? Not that these questions have a clear cut answer, but I explored them nevertheless. It is safe to say that I don't plan to revisit this territory anytime soon. I hope you liked my reviews or atleast gained more insight into these otherwise inaccessible movies.

Cannibal Holocaust * (1980) IMDB link ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0078935/ ) This cult movie is banned in most countries. For a good reason. This is the goriest, most repulsive and sickening movie I have ever seen. It features cannibalism and (real) animal killings. No director would make a movie like this today. As horrible it is to watch it, credit must be given to the director for making a bold movie, completely ignoring the timid morality and hypocrisy of film-making ethics. A kind review of this film can be found here ( www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/cannibalholocaust25th.php ) Just watched it. It's an excellent, intelligent film, I think. Self-conscious, self-reflexive and a convincing, effective exploration of the documentary ethic as well as a deteriorating society in the form of social hypocrisy. I can see why it might be banned: it's a big smack in the face on people's so-called moral values. I especially loved the "We're gonna win an Oscar!" line; that pretty much summed it up for me.

Capo, What is your opinion on the turtle scene? I found it very difficult to watch. For a split second I turned my head away from looking at it. As though consciously I was willing to see extreme stuff, but subconsciously not ready for it.

The way Deodato frames the meta-film, the most evil possible act would've been artistically justified. If he and his cast and crew had kidnapped, tortured and murdered some of the indigenous children, that would've been justifiable. Killing the animals for real and staging the rest was apparently about as far as his conscience allowed him to go.
It's such a provocative piece of moral filmmaking.

As though consciously I was willing to see extreme stuff, but subconsciously not ready for it. Whether this paints me in a bad light or not I'm not sure (and I'm not sure if I care, either way), but I had little reaction to it. I've seen worse, and if it had been any more explicit (it isn't that explicit, really), I would have still probably been able to stomach it.

I said I concluded this series, still here is one more : Une vraie jeune fille ** (1976) IMDB Link: www.imdb.com/title/tt0135024/An underage* girl tries to come to terms with her vagina. An interesting exploration of teen sexuality from a woman's perspective (the director is a woman). Highly recommended. But be warned that it contains graphic nudity. *character, not the actress
