Welcome to the boards, Marty. It's always brilliant to see members from countries other than the US and the UK joining. Really adds to our feeling here of Cinema being universal.
Another member of the board, Clownation, who hasn't posted in a while (though still reads), also feels Miller's Crossing is the Coens' best work. I'd rate it second, behind Fargo. I still need to see their two most recent films, which I missed at the cinemas rather deliberately (lack of money, and the premese didn't jump out at me).

I rate Barton Fink and The Man Who Wasn't There as their best, though I've only seen the former once.
Miller's Crossing, The Huducker Proxy and Fargo are close behind.

I really want to watch Intolerable Cruelty tonight on ITV1. But it's shown in two parts, with the news inbetween. First part is an hour and a half, and the second is only half an hour. What's the point in that? Commercials don't help either.
I've E-mailed ITV:

(In response to a deleted post):
They're all pretty close in my estimation. At the moment I'm ranking them TWBB > INT > NCFOM but I can see them shifting around with rewatches as they're all that damn good.
I thought No Country for Old Men was great.
(SLIGHT SPOILERS)
I loved the lack of nondiegetic music; the long silent stretches, such as the sequence with Chigurh examining the hotel rooms, Moss checking under his door to see if there was anyone in the hallway, and the scene in the street immediately after; the performances, which are all top-notch, especially Bardem's; and the dark allegorical tone of the film.

Would I be right in suspecting that the 'ultimate badass' theme is being played up for the trailers?
