That's a belief I've always fundamentally disagreed with you on. I still uphold that "prejudice."

Goodness, Close Encounters is a bit rubbish, isn't it?

You liked Munich too, svsg?
I hated that movie. I feel proud to agree with Capo on movie hatred ;D. I think I read earlier in this thread someone said this movie would have been interesting if Melville made it instead. Now that I'm becoming more familiar with Melville I agree completely! Spielberg made what could have been a great movie aimed at the casual dumb movie fan, no personal offense to those who enjoyed it here. I was bored and kept thinking about how good the movie could have been.

It's become quite a cliché, but I think Spielberg directs individual scenes better these days and not entire films.

Munich too. It's a very frustrating film (so is Schindler's List). Some of the stylistic flourishes are amazing, but narratively, it just outstays its welcome and withers away into tedium. It's intellectually lacking, despite all aspirations of maturity.
I think his best film is probably Jaws.

I don't think there's any competition, Jaws is by far his best in every way.

Um, yes, thanks for that. Expression of opinion also ≠ proclamation of 'law'.

Um, yes, thanks for that. Expression of opinion also ≠ proclamation of 'law'. Thus you prove my point. Thank you. I know I might, OH MY GOD, express my observation from my end of the universe, but yeah JAWS would probably be in my Top 3 Spielberg...along with RAIDERS and SCHINDLERS, though Capo did have a intriguing counter-argument against LIST which I won't adopt or dismiss, just....want to ponder whenever I bother to watch LIST again. Which might be when Obama is out of the White House. In 2017.

What do you guys think of Saving Private Ryan? I don't see it mentioned much, even though it has pretty good ratings by most of you.
