One of my favorite "new" filmmakers. His writing is incredible and the mise-en-scene is spectacular. In order of preference: The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) (Beats out Rushmore just by a little bit) Rushmore (1998) Bottle Rocket (1996) The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) Shorts: Bottle Rocket (1994)

Could've sworn I had already ranked his films in here before... But oh well, it's better this way. Lately I find myself enjoying Wes more than PTA... So I think this weekend I'll try to give all of his movies a re-watch (been meaning to watch The Life Aquatic again anyways), and I shall have to post my rankings.
And I need to see if I sway towards him over PTA.

...up until about a month ago, I considered PTA to be my favorite director. But as of late, I'm questioning my favoritism to artists of all mediums. You posted this quite a while ago, has Wes Anderson taken over as your favorite director or have you found a new director as your favorite? I've never really put much thought into ranking directors, but since you introduced me to this board it has me thinking about all sorts of music and movies. Wes Anderson and the Coens are probably the only two directors that, regardless of the movie subject, I want to see because of who wrote and directed the movies. I will be rating their movies in the next few days as I put more thought into them.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) - Rushmore (1998) - The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) - Bottle Rocket (1996) - I need to watch Rushmore again and I am really looking forward to watching The Darjeeling Limited.

1. The Royal Tenenbaums 2. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 3. The Darjeeling Limited 4. Rushmore (needs a rewatch) Darjeeling is the only one I liked instantly. The first two needed a couple of rewatches before I fully understood its magnificence. Looking forward to see Bottle Rocket for the first time, as well as another viewing of Rushmore.

Yeah, you know what? 2007: The Darjeeling Limited 2004: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 2001: The Royal Tenenbaums 1998: Rushmore 1996: Bottle Rocket Definitely my favorite director. I think The Darjeeling Limited is his second best, and it came ridiculously close to being his best. If nothing else, it's certainly one of the funniest films he's done. There were so many laugh out loud moments, more than I remember having the first time I saw The Royal Tenenbaums or The Life Aquatic... But maybe I just appreciate the humor more, now that I'm not 14. I think this line could be the funniest thing I've ever heard: "That was my assistant, Brendan. He has this disease where his head is shaven, only he doesn't have to shave it, because his hair just doesn't grow."
