Read all the external reviews linked to the Godard films on IMDB also SVSG, they might help too.

Breathless (zero stars) Pierrot le Fou Les Carabiniers (zero stars) I did not follow your advice Anasazie and watched yet another movie with disastrous results I promise, to do justice to the beloved filmmaker of FCM, that I will read more about him before I watch his next movie.

Godard gets a shrug from me, so don't worry too much about it.

I'm not a Godard fan, but I do think Pierrot and Carabiniers are two films that have a higher chance than his other earlier ones of not going over so well with you. I'd say My Life To Live is your best best. By subject matter, I'd say Contempt because of its portrayal of a marriage and artistic dilemmas (considering why you like Rublev and Puppetmaster so much), but some of its fans gather a lot of joy from its references/citations/allusions. I'd also say A Woman is a Woman, but you seem to not like light cinema so much. So My Life To Live and Contempt. Try those next. Actually, I think you'd like Contempt despite all the citations and references because I enjoyed the film despite a lot of that stuff going over my head, but the marriage and artistic dilemma stuff, I quite enjoyed. And Coutard is a genius. So Contempt then My Life To Live. If you don't like those, I don't see you liking any other Godards.

Breathless (zero stars) Pierrot le Fou Les Carabiniers (zero stars) Weekend Kino, I'll check out Contempt some time, I had put this one in the queue long ago and I didn't bother to rearrange it.

I don't know why I bother anymore trying to recommend to you which titles and in what order to watch them. With that said, Contempt and perhaps A Married Woman and My Life To Live

Don't you guys think that's a Godard that SVSG might like, Capo, Michael, et al? Revised recommendations: 1) Contempt 2) In Praise of Love 3) A Married Woman 4) My Life to Live

Love might be too abstract, but I'd never recommend against it. Contempt is the way forward.

Thanks Kino and both Michaels This is the only director (I think) I have persisted with this long. I would be pleasantly surprised if I start to like his movies at this point.

I have a desire to obsessively re-edit my directors lists but I don't see how I would have more accurate ratings through forgetting. Anyway, my monthly films lists are the only things I consider all that accurate, but I'm interested to rewatch a slew of certain, more subtextual directors films and see how my impressions of them have changed. With Godard in particular I could see myself being completely disenamored or enchanted all over again.

I watched "Two or Three Things I Know About Her" a few days ago, and cannot get it out of my mind. A documentary presentation, interconnected with various shots of modernization being thrown all over Paris, while Godard hides under a table somewhere, quickly speaking out against Capitalism in a hushed tone over beautifully framed shots with great use of (primary) colors. The dialogue as well as the narration is some of the most thought provoking stuff Godard has put out there. I am in awe, and cannot wait until the next time I view this film. My favorite of his work, though I still need to see his post 60s films.

been having a lot of fun with Godard lately. I started with Week End a couple years back and it certainley was NOT my thing. watched Breathless and My Life to Live shortly after, but still wasnt all that amazed. I liked them but didnt have the urge to keep going.
Recently though, I watched A Woman is a Woman (fucking hilarious), Tout va bien (fun...and that last tracking shot...fuuuuuucck), and Alphaville (just cool). Seen a couple other ones too.
